Metaphysical Variation
Painted with cold wax and oil paint on wood board, then pressing lids with painted edges on the surface.
My Muse of Inspiration
Painted on wood board, using cold wax and oil paint with a line of silver leaf toward the top. The happy accident in this painting is the eye in the upper left-center, therefore the title.

Abstract #1
This painting is my first abstract, therefore the title. It is painted on canvas, with textured underlay of flake white, a lead based oil paint. The size is 18" x 36". I loved pushing the paint around for this image.
Valley Barnstead
This image is painted on a wood panel that has been primed with two coats of gesso, then one coat of lead oil ground. Painting on wood panes dates back centuries, but is a new and wonderful experience for me. If the painting is a failure, it can be sanded down when dry, then recoated with lead oil ground, and, viola, a new painting surface.

Red Chairs in the Woods
This week, Monday Morning Painters was invited once again to Truett-Hurst Winery, and I selected these red chairs at the back of the winery to paint, with the sound of Dry Creek flowing in the background. Yes, I did put the umbrella in the exact center of the painting, but I think the red chairs offset my compositional error.

Beach at Sunset
This 24"x30" painting is larger than I normally work on, and was painted in my studio, using my imagination and some photos to develop the composition.

Patterns of Spring
This view is just off Highway 101, near Geyserville.
The fog is lifting and the mustard is just beginning to bloom.
In the Shadow of the Bridge
I took this photograph while in Sydney, Australia about 30 years ago.
It wasn't until I started this painting that I became aware of the shadow and what it represented.
Above Wine Creek Road
A gorgeous day, looking toward St Helena, from a Healdsburg vineyard after a rain.
I took liberties with the new green leaves of the spring vines.
The wind forced us to quit after an hour and a half.

Mustard in the Walnut Orchard
Because January has been so dry, very little mustard is blooming, but out painting in Kenwood a couple weeks ago, we found one of the few fields of mustard under a walnut orchard. The mustard took on a neon glow; the leafless branches appeared soft and slightly mauve to my eye. This painting seems in need of a counter weight on the left side, so it may not be finished.
